Caleb Davis love hearing peter over a blues. transcribed part of this solo and got a lot out of it! Favorite track: Blues.
freejazzy

freejazzy Standards is a somehow misleading title for this xxl performance. It contains every note, interval and sound that one can possibly get out of a trumpet. And a self confident accompanying piano not at all impressed by what is going on. Love to listen.

Giles I thought I'd basically heard all I ever needed to of jazz standards - not that I don't still enjoy them but just that they don't have a lot of room for something new compared to so many other directions in jazz. Leave it to Peter Evans to prove how wrong I was with this incredible record. It speaks with and respects everyone else who's played these tunes but also blows them apart in a completely original way. Peter Evans can't stop/won't stop being a thousand miles ahead.

nicholasjozwiakfan This is alien powers type shit. Check out Embraceable You, then go listen to Stardust off the Ghosts record, then go kill your ego and practice for 10,000 years. Favorite track: Embraceable You.

about

This album represents a cross-section of a lot of things I’ve been thinking about and working with recently, including but not limited to: Charlie Parker’s 100th birthday, Mark Fischer and his discussions of “atemporality” and “temporal malaise”, the improvisational tradition of trumpet players branching off from Louis Armstrong that includes people like Roy Eldridge, Benny Bailey and Charlie Shavers, and on some level the general atmosphere of 2020.
